Seminars

The Taoist Sanctuary hosts world class Taijiquan and Qi Gong teachers from all over the world. Grandmasters Chen Xiaowang and Chen Xiaoxing, Masters Chen Ziqiang, Ren Guangyi, Jan Silberstorff, David Gaffney and Davidine Sim, and Stephan Berwick have all taught seminars in Chen style Taijiquan. Master Ken Cohen, renowned Qi Gong instructor and author, holds a winter seminar series at the Sanctuary. Bill and Allison Helm give periodic workshops on Taijiquan, Qi Gong, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Anatomy of Taijiquan.

Workshops are not part of the monthly or session fees. Costs for the workshops will be available in the shop and are payable online or in person. Some workshops are limited to experienced students, and this will be clearly noted in the calendar event. Workshops rarely fill up, as the Taoist Sanctuary has plenty of space for all interested students.

Yi Quan: Foundations of Mind Body Healing and Martial Arts with Ken Cohen

Yi Quan, like Tai Chi, is both a healing and martial art. But unlike Tai Chi it does not require memorizing a complicated choreography. Rather, in this highly experiential workshop, we focus on refining the skills that are at the core of Tai Chi and Qigong. Ken Cohen, who learned from a direct student of the founder of Yi Quan, will share detailed ways to improve posture, breathing and movement and unique Standing Meditation practices such as Hunyuan (Primordial) Standing, Eagle Standing, Monkey Standing, and Dragon Standing. He will also teach Yi Quan visualizations that increase relaxation, energy flow, and core strength. For those who are interested in the martial arts application of Yi Quan, there will be an opportunity to learn Yi Quan’s unique 1-2-3 punching routines to increase the ability to store and release internal force. No pre-requisites. All levels welcome.
